Mr. Stephenson provides counseling and litigation services to management clients in employment matters. He has successfully defended employers before administrative agencies around the country, and the state and federal courts in North Carolina, against claims of employment discrimination, wrongful termination, breach of contract, workplace bodily injuries, and wage and hour violations, and represents businesses in the enforcement of non-compete and similar agreements. He has tried employment cases to jury verdict in North Carolina courts. He advises management on wide ranging topics of employment law compliance, including the avoidance of employee claims, the review and drafting of employment contracts and policies, and development and presentation of employee training programs.

He regularly publishes articles and is a sought after speaker on employment law topics. After serving as President of Charlotte Area Society of Human Resource Managers, and Conference Chair of the 2015 NCSHRM State Conference in September 2015, he is currently Government Affairs Director of North Carolina SHRM.

Mr. Stephenson also has extensive experience providing insurance coverage counseling and litigation services on Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI), Directors and Officers (D&O), General Liability (GL), Errors & Omissions (E&O), and other lines of coverage including declaratory judgment and bad faith litigation and appeals.

Mr. Stephenson also litigates in the state and federal courts of North Carolina in cases pertaining to commercial and professional liability, products liability, transportation and premises liability, and other areas of civil liability.

He volunteers his legal services as a pro bono attorney with the Council for Children's Rights in Charlotte, North Carolina.

  • Partial summary judgment granted on claim for punitive damages under Americans with Disabilities Act, forcing settlement, United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina
