Overview

Louis Spencer is a native of Beaufort, North Carolina. Louis was graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1995 and received his Juris Doctor from Tulane University Law School in 1999 where he specialized in maritime and environmental law. 

Prior to joining McNair Law Firm in February, 2007, Louis practiced with the law firm of Emmett, Cobb, Waits & Henning in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the areas of maritime, business and commercial law. As part of his maritime practice, Louis handles matters involving vessel collisions, maritime personal injury, towage agreements, cargo, charter parties, vessel finance/construction/documentation, insurance coverage disputes and all cases involving general maritime law jurisdiction. Louis also handles a wide variety of general business and commercial matters involving complex commercial contracts, facility leasing, business torts, unfair trade practices, commercial collections & foreclosures, lost profits & lost business opportunities, and business interruption claims. 

Louis is an Associate in our Charlotte office.

  • Negotiation of multi-million dollar vessel time charter and purchase agreement for fleet of vessels and barges for towage company client
  • Negotiation of multi-million dollar bulk cargo salvage and warehousing agreement for stevedore client
  • Consult, organize and handle regulatory matters in a startup cargo import business for investor clients
  • Salvage of barges stranded by hurricane for barge owner client
  • Defend towage company client when drilling rig capsized during towage
  • Arrest and seize vessel to enforce debt and reclaim vessel fixtures for telecommunication client
  • Defend dredging client in multiple personal injury lawsuits and prosecute claim against towage company for vessel collision
