| Overview | John Currie works in the Firm’s business unit and represents clients in a broad range of corporate finance, securities and merger and acquisition transactions. This includes representing issuers and underwriters in public offerings of equity and debt securities, representing issuers and purchasers in private placements and representing parties in public and private mergers and acquisitions, including mergers and stock and asset sales.
After receiving his law degree, John joined the Washington, D.C. law firm of Arent, Fox, Kintner, Plotkin & Kahn, where he became a partner in 1979. He joined McNair Law Firm, P.A. in 1980 and became a Shareholder in 1981. He currently serves as the Firm's Chief Operating Officer. His practice areas include banking, corporate and securities law. |

- Representing utility holding company and its subsidiaries in financings, including common and preferred equity; trust preferred securities; medium term note programs; mortgage bonds; 3(a)(3) and 4(2) commercial paper programs; and bank lines
- Serving as issuer's counsel in underwritten bank initial public offering (IPO) and follow-on public offerings
- Serving as underwriters' counsel in bank public offerings
- Representing technology start-ups in initial private placements and subsequent venture capital infusions
- Representing private equity investors in series of investments in telecommunications companies, including equity lines and investments in connection with prepackaged bankruptcies, and in a start-up pharmaceutical company
- Representing start-up bank holding from organization through ultimate sale, including initial private placement; subsequent venture capital investments; acquisitions of banks and bank branches in a series of transactions; organization of residential mortgage company division; carve-out and initial public offering of mortgage company, including negotiation of warehouse line financing; organization of commercial mortgage company; and ultimate sale of banks and/or bank branches in a series of transactions
- Representing acquirors and targets in bank and bank holding company mergers and acquisitions, including the target in the first interstate bank acquisition in South Carolina
- Representing buyers and sellers in insurance holding company and insurance company acquisitions
- Representing public company in going private transaction
- Representing issuers in 144A note sales
