Overview

Craig Garner joined McNair and has participated in various areas of the practice. He has primarily a transactions and business organization practice, with his largest industry concentrations being hospitals, financial institutions, and tax-exempt organizations. As Loss Prevention Counsel, he serves as the Firm’s risk manager and participates in educating the Firm’s lawyers on legal and ethical rulings and best practices.

He has developed extensive experience in health care transactions, commercial and real estate lending, financial institution regulatory matters, workers compensation insurance rate approvals, and museum law. Craig was lead counsel for one of the hospitals in a joint arrangement between a public hospital and a private religious hospital to consolidate their operations into a new tax-exempt entity. He has represented hospitals in various types of matters, including joint arrangements with physicians and False Claims Act investigations.

Craig has served as counsel for the borrower in tax-exempt financings and in interest rate swap transactions. He has formed new banks, has handled complex loan workouts and bank mergers and acquisitions, and has a general business transaction practice involving mergers/sales/acquisitions of businesses, commercial real estate, franchises and other contract matters, and tax-exempt corporations. He has represented attorneys in professional liability claims, and has presented anti-trust compliance seminars and other training seminars for clients. 

He has written articles for the Family Business Forum Journal and the South Carolina Bankers Association.

Craig has been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® 2008, and has been listed in this publication each year since 2005. Craig was also selected to be included in the inaugural edition of Guide to the Leading US Healthcare Lawyers (copyright 2005 by Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC).
